Wilcox Group seamlessly executed six simultaneous media conferences across Canada to announce CanWest’s landmark $800-million purchase of WIC’s 11 Canadian television stations and related assets. Our work included delivering targeted communications materials to employees and key stakeholder groups.
In less than two years, Wilcox Group elevated fourth largest law firm Fasken Martineau to become the most-quoted law firm in Canadian national media. In addition to leveraging key announcements about the firm's expansion to the U.K. and mergers with boutique firms, our integrated communications strategy focused on building trusted, reciprocal media relationships. By positioning Fasken Martineau's associates and partners as subject matter experts in key practice areas, reporters regularly called upon the lawyers for comment and commentary, resulting in targeted coverage in all major Canadian outlets and legal trade publications.
When Electronic Arts Canada, one of the world’s largest video game producers, needed fresh ideas and additional artistic resources, Wilcox Group formulated and executed a public relations program centred on attracting top-quality talent to this growing company.
Wilcox Group provided strategy and counsel to HDTV Networks during its formal application to the CRTC to obtain an over-the-air broadcast licence and become Canada’s first national, high-definition television network. HDTV Networks is poised to deliver programming in high-definition (HD) format to viewers in Canada’s eight largest English television markets with unprecedented clarity and Dolby® Digital sound. Wilcox Group coordinated media relations surrounding the announcement and worked with the company to address various challenges during a time of a rapid consolidation in the industry and changes in the regulatory environment.
During a period of consolidation and 26-year record gold prices, Kinross Gold Corporation relied on the professionals at Wilcox Group for strategic communications counsel and media relations support to leverage the company’s business strategy, value and goals. We worked closely with Kinross management to develop a 60-day communications strategy and media materials needed to position Kinross as a best-in-class gold producer. We also provided comprehensive communications counsel to support Kinross on a number of financial announcements, including the $3.5-billion Bema Gold takeover by Kinross Gold, and have media trained senior executives in preparation for media and analyst interviews.
In April 2007, Wilcox Group supported the Kinross team in preparation for and during CEO Tye Burt's visit to the NYSE to ring the Closing Bell to punctuate Kinross' spectacular success in 2006. This celebration of Kinross' designation as the top performing senior gold equity for 2006 and its recent acquisition of Bema Gold Corporation garnered coverage on TheStreet.com; MSNBC's Closing Bell; Dow Jones; MarketWatch and Reuters.
Working with Molson Canada, Wilcox Group provided media relations strategies and execution for a large number of high-profile events and product launches. Among the most memorable were the Molson Snow Jam event, Molson Canadian House Party contests and events, the Molson Indy Vancouver, Molson Canadian Blind Date tour and Molson’s contribution to the Vancouver/Whistler 2010 Olympic Bid.
In 2008, when Mountain Province Diamonds recovered the largest diamond ever found through a Canadian drill program, the executive team looked to Wilcox Group to lead the announcement to media and potential investors. Working alongside Mountain Province Diamonds' CEO, Wilcox Group capitalized on the opportunity to garner nationwide media coverage on the 25.13 carat “Tuzo” diamond recovered at the Gahcho Kué project – a joint venture with De Beers Canada and the world's largest diamond mine currently under development. By executing a strategic media relations campaign, interviews were arranged with the CEO and coverage was attained across the country in all the major dailies and industry papers, including the front page of the National Post.
Wilcox Group spearheaded the public announcement of the first confirmed diamond discovery in Nunavut by Stornoway Ventures, Northern Empire Minerals and Hunter Explorations.
